This is Aaron McInturff with your news of BOS for 5 July, Monday. If you don’t know me I am from Rockford, IL and I go to Rockford Temple but soon to be the Freeport Corps (but it will still be 20 miles away). I live about 1 mile south of a small town called Nora.
My friend Josh Bowyer invited me to the Salvation Army, and told me about Band of Survivors. I read the packet and figured it would help grow my leadership skills but most importantly my connection with God. God is a great inspiration to who I am and what I love.
Today was the first full day spent at CFOT (College for Officer Training). This morning we did something a little different than most worship services. It’s called the “Knee Drill”. A Knee Drill is a worship service where we Pray the Bible and sing songs to the Lord with all our heart. I really liked it because it allowed me to sing as loudly as I felt and knelt if I wanted to without anyone thinking I’m weird.
After Laundry and calling our parents which we do once a week, we went back into the chapel to do a Salvation Circle. In the Salvation Circle, the entire Band of Survivors sits in a circle and we take turns answering how we got to where we are right now, how we joined the Army, why we did BOS, and how God influences our lives. Whatever said in the circle stayed in the circle so no one was allowed to talk about it afterwards. Some of the things people said were very intense and emotional so we respected that by not talking about it.
Afterwards, we did our 2nd Salvation class which was about how to maintain God in our lives and what it means to maintain Him. And that was it for the rest of the night.
