Worship Song Spotlight: Vapor (The Liturgists)

A song that’s been on repeat recently is “Vapor” by The Liturgists. The song speaks of the things of earth being like a vapor or mist, and that, instead, we should set are hearts on the things of heaven. This is totally backed up by the Scriptures:

Colossians 3:1-4
3 Since you have been raised to new life with Christ, set your sights on the realities of heaven, where Christ sits in the place of honor at God’s right hand. 2 Think about the things of heaven, not the things of earth. 3 For you died to this life, and your real life is hidden with Christ in God. 4 And when Christ, who is your[a] life, is revealed to the whole world, you will share in all his glory.

James 4:13-17
13 Look here, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we are going to a certain town and will stay there a year. We will do business there and make a profit.” 14 How do you know what your life will be like tomorrow? Your life is like the morning fog—it’s here a little while, then it’s gone. 15 What you ought to say is, “If the Lord wants us to, we will live and do this or that.” 16 Otherwise you are boasting about your own pretentious plans, and all such boasting is evil. 17 Remember, it is sin to know what you ought to do and then not do it.

Ecclesiastes 1:1-3; 3:11
1 The words of the Preacher, the son of David, king in Jerusalem.

2 Vanity* of vanities, says the Preacher,
vanity of vanities! All is vanity.
3 What does man gain by all the toil
at which he toils under the sun?

11 He has made everything beautiful in its time. Also, he has put eternity into man’s heart, yet so that he cannot find out what God has done from the beginning to the end.

*The Hebrew term hebel, translated vanity or vain, refers concretely to a “mist,” “vapor,” or “mere breath,” and metaphorically to something that is fleeting or elusive (with different nuances depending on the context). It appears five times in this verse and in 29 other verses in Ecclesiastes.

2 Corinthians 4:16-18
16 That is why we never give up. Though our bodies are dying, our spirits are[e] being renewed every day. 17 For our present troubles are small and won’t last very long. Yet they produce for us a glory that vastly outweighs them and will last forever! 18 So we don’t look at the troubles we can see now; rather, we fix our gaze on things that cannot be seen. For the things we see now will soon be gone, but the things we cannot see will last forever.

What does it mean to you for life to be like a vapor or mist? How does that change the way you live your life, and what your heart is set on?

Vapor Lyrics:

Oh the vapor of it all
It’s a chasing of the wind
The powers of the earth so pale and thin
We will set our hearts on you again

Heaven taunts the hearts of men
We can feel it from within
The beauty of it all
The mystery
The swelling of a voice
A rising sea

Holy
You oh God are Holy
Trees clap their hands for you
Oceans they dance for you
You are holy

Oh the mystery of it all
I can never peer within
I’ll never find the words or understand
The fullness of a God
Become a man

Holy
You oh God are Holy
Trees clap their hands for you
Oceans they dance for you

You are holy
Infinite and holy
A billion suns rise for you
Clouds paint the skies for you
Mountains stand tall for you
Valleys bow down to you
Everything rising to
Sing all our songs for you

Holy
The impossible and holy
Kings become fools for you
Kingdoms to ruins for you
Vapor finds ground in you
Music finds sound for you
Everything rising
Everything rising

Come like dawn
Like waves
Like sunlight
Bring this world to life

Come like rain
Like breath
Like springtime
Bring this world to life

Next Friday (September 5), we’re launching an all new year of Prayer & Praise Nights at the Elgin Corps, and we can hardly wait to see what God is going to do this year! Obviously, one of the things we do at Prayer & Praise Night is worship together, and we would be idiots if we just kept all of our worship resources to ourselves. Where’s the fun in that?

Music Video: “Lazarus” by Bellarive

bellarive lazarus

As we’ve talked about before, Bellarive is releasing their second full length album this summer, and we just can’t wait. In preparation for this release, they made a music video for a song called “Lazarus”, leaking a short preview not too long ago. Today, they released the full length video, along with the following news:

“Lazarus” will be available as a digital single on May 19th.
“Lazarus” is the first single from Bellarive’s upcoming new album, which releases on July 22nd.

Do yourself a favor, and watch the epicness that is this song and video now. Also, mark your calendars for the above dates. You’ll be sorely disappointed if you don’t.
