Capt. Danielle Strickland isn’t a stranger to Chicago, at least not by association – The War College. Many of us are familiar with The War College because they send us some students every Youth Councils to help around and lead our Special Ops morning and night prayer and worship times. Capt. Strickland and her husband, Capt. Stephen Court, founded and directed the War College before recently being transferred to the Southern Territory of Australia. Currently Capt. Strickland is the Social Justice Director there, coordinating ways for Salvos to identify the injustice in the world so they can do something about it. Just recently she was featured on ABC’s radio show “Sunday Night” where she touched on everything from the relationship between Politics and Faith to her own salvation experience when she met Jesus in a jail cell to how the Salvation Army can empower poor kids with brass band instruction (think about it!) – She even mentions the idea of a green Salvation Army. She also plays a few songs throughout the session in order to talk about some of these issues: Yahweh (U2), Fix You (Coldplay), World On Fire (Sarah McLaughlin), Spirit Of Eternal Love (General Albert Osborn, redone by Capt. Strickland), India Reborn (Capt. Danielle Strickland), and Poverty (Jason Upton). With a holy imagination, Capt. Strickland effectively captured the mission of the Army – living out the “triangle of Micah 6:8” – and demonstrated how we can live it out.
